Case Studies

Our case studies highlight real-world wireless fire alarm system projects delivered across a range of building sectors.

From heritage properties and high rise developments to healthcare facilities and construction sites, each project demonstrates a structured approach to survey, design, installation support and certified delivery.

Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland
Sector:Heritage & Listed Buildings
Project Summary:

The RIAI supports the architectural profession, promotes the value that architecture brings to society for everyone’s benefit, and maintains the Register for Architects in Ireland. The RIAI, was founded in 1839 and its office is located in No. 8 Merrion Square North, Dublin 2.

Solution Highlights:

Located in a beautiful former Georgian townhouse since 1921, RIAI’s headquarters, was one of the first buildings to be constructed on Merrion Square in 1763. The building is a protected structure, and has retained much of its historic and architectural character.

Both the emergency lighting and fire alarm systems needed to be upgraded in this busy commercial property. The upgrade works had to take place on a phase floor by floor basis, while the building was fully occupied and in use. Full fire detection coverage was to be maintained at all times during works.

Heritage and listed buildings present unique fire protection challenges. Preserving architectural features while ensuring occupant safety requires a fire alarm system that can be installed with minimal physical impact.

On behalf of the clients electrical contractor, VRF conducted a structured radio site survey and system design survey for a fully compliant FireCell Wireless Fire Detection System.

The pre-programmed FireCell system was installed by the electrical contractor during phase 1 of the upgrade works and provided full coverage for the duration of the remaining phases.
