The Gate Theatre
| Sector: | Heritage & Entertainment |
|---|---|
| Project Summary: | Iconic Dublin cultural landmark building. Original historic building constructed between 1784–1786; opened as a theatre in 1930. Modern architectural extension added and opened in 2008. |
| Solution Highlights: | Legacy conventional fire system wired in aging pyro cable required replacement. Upgraded fire alarm panel and devices in the historic wing to an EMS FireCell wireless system. Working with the client’s electrical contractor, VRF engineered a hybrid networking solution to seamlessly bridge the historic structure and modern extension. |
The Gate Theatre is an iconic Dublin cultural landmark. The original building was built between 1784–1786, later remodelled and opened as a theatre in 1930. The modern northern extension, which expanded the foyer and updated the bar areas, was officially opened in 2008.
The legacy fire alarm system in the original building was a conventional and wired in pyro cable. To protect the fabric of the building, a decision was made to upgrade to an addressable wireless system. Working with the nominated electrical contractor, VRF designed a FireCell wireless fire detection system for the historic wing, consisting of 120+ FireCell wireless devices.
VRF also upgraded the existing wired network interlinking the two distinct building phases into a fully compliant wireless infrastructure. This was achieved using FireCell Radio Network Communicators to wirelessly link the two Kentec addressable fire alarm panels.
